It’s funny: Nomad Editorial is all about helping writers finish their books, but I’ve never written a book myself.

I don’t blame you if you’re wondering, What’s up with that?

Here’s the thing: I believe there is no one way to be a writer, to write a book, to get published. You need to find your right way.

This is how I live my life in general—on my terms, my way.

Thus far, I haven’t felt a pressing need to write a book. Other things seem to be winning out in the battle for my time and passion, things like leading writing retreats and traveling around the world.

So I haven’t written a book, even though I’ve been told more times than I can remember, “Hey, you should write a book!” Maybe someday I will, but I won’t until it feels right for me.

Writing a book is a lot of work, and it’s not something you should take on for the wrong reasons, such as feeling like you should, needing to please others, wanting to make lots of money, or wanting to be famous.

But when that nagging feeling or that big idea you want to share with the world just won’t go away, then it’s time to write your book.

And when you’re writing a book for the right reasons, on your terms, it will be exactly the book you were meant to write.

UPDATE: did write a book! I don’t think it’s the book, but it’s the book I was called to write at the time. Find out all about it here.
